Priced per group rather than per head, so the cost per person falls as the group grows. Exact cost depends on dates, group size and villa availability.
Who It's For
Complete beginners and certified divers alike, which is unusual and is really a function of where Bali's sites are. Manta Point is shallow enough that a Discover Scuba diver can see mantas on their first day underwater.
If you are undecided, our honest advice is that Open Water is worth the three or four days. It costs you part of the trip and unlocks every other site in Bali, permanently.
About the Mantas
Reef mantas are resident at Nusa Penida year-round and visit cleaning stations where wrasse remove parasites. Sightings are common, encounters are shallow, and nobody can promise them, because they are wild animals.
What we can promise is how we behave around them. Keep a respectful distance, stay low, do not chase. Cleaning stations stop working if animals are crowded, which costs everyone the encounter. Guides brief this before you get in.
Best Time to Dive
Diving runs year-round. Visibility is generally best in the dry season from April to October, and manta sightings are most consistent around April and May.
From roughly July to October, oceanic sunfish, the mola mola, rise from deep water around Nusa Penida. That is genuinely exciting and it comes with colder water, often 20 to 24°C, so a thicker wetsuit matters. Crystal Bay also carries real currents and is an Advanced-level site rather than a beginner one.
