Who It's For

Families with children from around age eight upward. That is not an arbitrary number: it is the point at which the Level 1 Batur route becomes genuinely enjoyable rather than a slog, and where the Nusa Penida boat crossing stops being a problem.

We have guided guests from age 8 to 68 on the Level 1 trek, and the pace is set by the slowest person in the group rather than the fastest.

How the Days Work

The mistake most families make in Bali is booking something every day. We would rather leave gaps. Activity days are front-loaded into the morning, because it is cooler and everything is quieter, which leaves afternoons free for the pool.

Mount Batur is the early start, with pickup around 3am and everyone back at the villa by roughly 9am. It is a big ask for one morning and worth it. We would not put anything demanding the following day.

Nusa Penida is a full day and involves a fast-boat crossing from Sanur. Anyone prone to seasickness should take something beforehand; we will remind you.

Best Time to Come

The dry season from April to October gives the most reliable conditions for both the trek and the boat crossing, which matters more with children than it does with adults.

School holidays in July and August are the busiest and priciest weeks in Bali. If your dates are flexible, May, June or September give you very similar weather with noticeably fewer people.
